*In the original writing the word teacher and leader are both expressed as 지도자(ji-do-ja) which means both a teacher and a leader.

So in translation 'teacher' and 'leader' have been alternatively used to fit the context.

Like I've mentioned in my previous writing

meeting a good teacher is a lucky thing to the student.

Now it is time to think about what attitude a student should have.

Sometime during my teaching, I face those who think a teacher is a player.

A teacher, however, is different from a player.

'Playing well in a match and showing how good one is at martial art' and 'teaching well' are two different things. We think Guus Hiddink is a great coach not because he excels as a player. We think he is a great coach because he knew his players well, planned out strategies, trained them, gave trust, and united the players as one team and showed a good result. He is respected because he was a professional coach, a leader.

It's the same for martial art teachers.

One may not be perfectly functioning as a player and in expressing the martial art, but still be able to teach students. A teacher has gone through the problems and troubles that students are struggling with, solved them and know what to deal with them. This is the power of experience.

As I've written in my former writing students will trust and follow "a teacher who has the expertise, does not stop training and sincerely studies and practices."

These days it is easy to experience martial arts and sports as there are a lot of sports centers and clubs.

And unfortunately even in martial arts where respect and curtsey play a great role, students gradually do not express respect to their teachers. They think it is fair to earn a learning because they are paying for it, and do not know the value of it as it is too easily experienced.

It is correct from the outside.

However, if someone is willing to learn something, he/she should pay the right price regardless of what that person is learning. It is the minimal condition for learning. So, it is quite troublesome if one thinks the student and the teacher is equal because he/she has paid for it. Of course, they are equal as human beings, but they can't be equal in teaching and learning.

Teachers are those who have acquired techniques and know-how through a long time of hard training before the students and deliver such knowledge to the students. There are a lot of time and efforts in it. So it is appropriate to show the respect to those who have already walked down the path.

There is nothing more worthwhile for teachers to meet a great student and lead them, just like a student meeting a great teacher.
