Every player who participates in a game must play with sportsmanship in mind. Sportsmanship is the fundamental mentality of sports and applies to martial artists with stricter manner.

After watching a recent football game, I thought of sportsmanship deeply.

Sportsmanship is 'behavior and attitudes that show respect for the rules of a game and for the other players.'. So, if one shows a disrespectful attitude the person lacks sportsmanship.

In ICSPE(International Council of Sport and Physical Education) sports, approved by UNESCO and IOC, declare that " A sport without sportsmanship is no longer a sport." It highlights how much sportsmanship matters.

If sportsmanship does not exist, martial artists who practice techniques that may fatally harm people when used in the wrong way may face danger. We can quite often find people who participate in a game or a sparring solely for the victory.

It is right to get into a game with an attitude to 'win'. Until the end of the game, we have to put all that we have. In games and sparring, however, we should not forget to 'respect'. Such behaviors like attacking the opponent after the whistle, insulting the loser, and using foul techniques secretly, are not the right manner for martial artists, and can also harm the opponent to a serious extent.

Fair play is made through constant practices. If one treats martial arts as a simple combat skill and does not train their mind, it can become dangerous. Martial artists are those who train both the mind the body.

It is important not to train with the win-at-all-cost mentality, but to train with regard the respect of the training process itself.

When one takes part in a sparring or a game with such respectful mentality, the game will be played fair with sportsmanship.
